Stephen Thompson began making color photographs of the landscape 1985. He is mainly self-taught but has also completed several degrees in environmental studies from the University of Waterloo. This is where Stephen received training in photography including course work in photographic lighting, portraits, darkroom developing/printing and digital darkroom techniques.

Stephen makes photographs with a variety of photographic equipment, primarily shooting with digital equipment since mid-2005. Stephen carries four cameras with him at most times (3 digital, 1 film) not only to ensure redundancy but also to make sure the right camera is available for the right application.

Stephen's photographic quests have taken him from the Atlantic to Pacific coasts in both Canada and the United States. Favourite locations include the Pacific coast of North America, the Bruce Peninsula of Ontario and the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts.

Stephen has lived in 6 cities across Ontario and currently resides in the Niagara Region of Ontario.
